OCTranspo has been on strike for the past couple weeks.
There’s a lot of hatred being directed at the bus drivers.
People, myself included, are pretty upset by not having any public transportation in Ottawa, for many it has meant real suffering.
I won’t go into details right now (I’m planning a longer post sometime in the near future).
I think the bus drivers have been suffering too, it is no fun picketing in the snow, during the holidays; let alone being the victim of all this hatred.
I feel as if the City, eager to bully the OC Transpo Union into working longer days with less control over which schedules they work, is driving a wedge between the people and the strikers, manipulating the people into raging monsters. This is different from the typical response to strikers in smaller towns (e.g miner unions in Sudbury).
I’m going to write some more words about this soon.
I know it has been a while since I last posted, I’m visiting home in Ottawa now, I think I’ll be in Montreal for New Years Eve, and I’ll be back at the University of Toronto by January 5th.
